MvA: The Missing Link

Always having an affinity for good animation, I just loved 2009's Monster v. Aliens. An homage to the Monster movies from the 50s and 60s, the story is a bride to be gets hit my a meteorite of Quantonium, grows incredibly large and is capture and sent to monster "jail" with other monster inmates.  An alien comes to Earth to destroy the Earth, and recover his Quantonium. A general and the President releases the monsters to fight the alien.

A few years back on producer released a Dr. Cockroach (one of the monsters) kit.  After that nothing.  so I decided to get some of my Cosclay, and do the Missing Link from the movie.

This is the image I used for my pose - of course another image added the feet. Haha

Not many WIP pics were taken, but here's Link - before paint.  Thanks for looking.

Vladislav as a Cat in Clay

Ever since the Sculpting Patreon group I was part of dissolved, I had a hard time coming up with ideas for something to do. So I ended up doing nothing. Until "What We Do" showed up on a cable channel.

One of the lesser known movies that I really like to watch over and over is the mock-umentary What We Do In The Shadows. It is the inspiration for the TV series of the same name.

In the movie however, a film crew follows 4 vampires in New Zealand. The each have their various quirks, and one, Vladislav the Poker, played by Clement Jermaine.  Vlad was very good at transforming, until his difficult breakup with his girlfriend- The Beast.   From then on he could still transform but now he "couldn't get the faces right."

The camera switches away to show Vlad as a cat but with a human face.

This had to be brightened a lot to see what was gong on.

Now I knew what I wanted to do. While I'm not good at likenesses (and prolly never will be) how badly could I mess this up?  So I got to work and ended up with my version of Vlad Cat. I was thinking about casting a few before painting so he's still Sculpy gray.  Thanks for looking.

Knights of NI

After finishing off my Beast of Arrrggghh. I just had to do the Knights of NI.
Sculpted in a mix of Super Sculpey and SS Medium. I went to work in approx. 1/10 scale .

Having had a hard drive failure, I don't have any pics of them in just clay anymore. But after the New Year, I did get some paint of them. Yep, they did get their fence and shrubbery.  Thanks for looking.

Thurs. Throwdown for 11/7/19

This week's throw down was Bad Ass Pilgrim.
Had to think about this one a bit. Was originally going to have a turkey in the guy's hand. But whats bad ass about that? So I changed it to a giant bloody wolf head.  Thanks for looking.

Black Beast of Arrrggghhh.

Having enjoyed Monty Python and the Holy Grail for years, I never knew the monster had a name .  Then when I found out, it's odd that the Black Beast isn't even black. LOL

The core of it is just aluminum foil, then covered in a mix of SS and SS Medium. The eyes are a ceramic type bead from MoreZmore.
Didn't have any WIP but here's the finished figure. Base to come sooner of later. Thanks for looking.

Rolfosteus Finale

Go back to part 2 - http://kevtk.blogspot.com/2019/11/rolfosteus-part-2.html

I had quite the busy afternoon in the studio. I'll keep everything separate to make it easier for me to go back and look up things.
Anyway, the Rolfosteus vignette is finished. Picking up where I left off, the entire vignette except the fish got a primer coat of black, and a series of gray dry brushes on the tree, and then varying green highlights to plants.  Different pieces of bark, and pebbles busied up the river bed. The fish was added in and then everything was given a dust coat of turquoise to give the impression of being under water. Thanks for looking.

Edna got a base

Part 1:  http://kevtk.blogspot.com/2019/06/edna-mode.html

Having been lost in my table of completed models, I finally found her and gave her a base. It's not great, and will have to work on my basing...

Rolfosteus Part 2

 See part 1 - http://kevtk.blogspot.com/2019/10/rolfosteus-model.html

In this session it was time to create the base for the model. I wanted it a little different than my other prehistoric fish, which were imagine in the sea. I couldn't find any info where they thought it lived but I gave it a river type base. starting out with an mdf base from Green Stuff World I added a mound of the Aves Free Form Foam epoxy for the groundwork. The stuff is very light weight and easy, albeit a little sticky to use. The only downside IMHO is that when it's mixed it smells like a wet dog to me until it dries.

Going to the fish section of a local Pet store I picked up an interesting little piece of wood, and some plants.  I cut the plant bases off and stuck them into epoxy and pushed the still soft epoxy around the plastic roots. The fish will be moving thru the tangle between the branch and plant.

Painting comes next. Thanks for looking.

Tho I create my dios to be seen from one POV, I felt the need to take a pic of the rear of the diorama.

Rhys, The Cantina Thug

A totally made o character for the Star Wars Universe. His claim to "fame" was that after hanging out at the Cantina, he left which opened up the Table where Han and Chewie sat down.  Done with SS clay and Vallejo paints. He started out with me playing with a little bit of clay and made his head.  I need to go a long way with posing. Thanks for looking.

Rolfosteus model

This project all started after seeing an interesting image of the fish on Deviantart.
From the site:
Rolfosteus is a genus of arthrodire placoderm fish that lived in Australia during the Devonian.‭ ‬Though small for an arthrodire placoderm,‭ ‬the stand out feature of Rolfosteus is the enlarged snout.‭ ‬The specific purpose of this snout is still unknown,‭ ‬but fish that develop such a feature usually do so as a form of sensor suite,‭ ‬having a heightened ability to detect things such as smells to even electrical impulses from prey that otherwise might be hidden.

One thing I like was that this fish topped out at approx. 6 inches.  So I was able to make it life size.

The sculpt was done with Super Sculpey, with MoreZmore ceramic beads for eyes.  This guy will be painted ASAP.

Thursday Throw Down 10/3/19

This week's throw down was If a Celebrity was Frankenstein.  I originally misread it as a celebrity Frankenstein. And when I discovered it I only had a couple of days to make the change.  With the hand position the first thing I thought of was Paulie Walnuts from The Sopranos.  So, bada biong, here's Frankie Walnuts.

Thursday Throw Down 9/19/19

This weeks throw down was titled Kid with home made Halloween costume.
First thing I thought of was the kid with the plane/rocket out of a box.  I even tried to paint it as a 10 year old would.  Good idea but way too ambitious for the time period. At the 11th hr., the sculpt also cracked and I had little time to do anything else but a bad repair job.  Any way here's a boy and his rocket -

Thursday Throwdow for 7/25/19

The rules changed up a bit. Instead of a 3 day throw down, it's a week now, and instead of the chance to win a prise, Troy feels that people are intimadated if a prise is offered. So you just get an "atta-boy."  Fine by me.

This week's title was "Curse of the Living Wig". The night before the challenge, I saw Ahh-nold's Total Recall on TV.  So when the theme came up I thought of the way the host would go under while Quato would do the speaking.  My host is an Indian Shaman, and she's in a trance while her hair becomes conscious.  There's even an eye in the back to cover her 6.  LOL Thanks for looking.
