Medusa

Always looking to add to my Medusa collection. This time we have one that was sitting in the stash for so long that I no longer remember the producer or any other info. I tried doing a search but - no joy. If anyone recognizes it, please let me know...

 It came in 3 parts - the bust the snakes and the base. It was a nearly flawless casting - a few faint seam lines but nothing really worth noting. 

 

Started off with adding some flesh tones, and decided her outfit would be red. While that was drying a drybrushed the base and then added some green tint. 

Finally I addressed the elephant in the room and tackled the snakes. I didn't want them all to be the same color. There are so many sculpted in there, that I was afraid it would look like one big blob.  After getting them all colored in, they seemed too bright. So out came the Citadel Agrax Earthshade wash (brown) and dulled them down a bit. I added the black wash to the deepest recesses for that effect. 

Finally, I tidied up a few areas, and added a little more color to the base, and I was done. Thanks for looking.

Aradia Medusa

 Adding to my collection of Medusa's this time is from Aradia Miniatures. This was part of the Dante Inferno collection.  The figure is approximately 75mm and comes in 8 or 9 parts of well done gray resin.

My love/hate relationship with Aradia miniatures strikes again with this kit. It's obvious (to me - maybe not) that these kits are 3D modeled on computer, printed and then cast.  Being that they are 3D designed, the tolerances are very tight. The Main problem comes as there are no instructions as to assembly order. You only have a drawn diagram on the box.  You start building and then 2/3s the way thru you find out that the assembled sub assemblies don't fit together.

My mistake came somewhere between gluing the soldier to his base and putting Medusa's wings on her body. The folding up wing wouldn't fit with the way the spear was sitting. I had to bend the soldiers sear ( a copper tube) and justified it with it got bent during the fight. Yeah that's it...

Evidently, I'm guessing that I needed to put her wings on, and then glued her tail which wrapped around his back, THEN glue the whole thing to the base, rather than one figure at a time.

With all the building done this once again called out to be to make some OSL in the form of some fire from below. I think it came out slightly better than my last try.  Thanks for looking. 

 

Greenwell's Medusa Finale

 Having another look at the tentacles, I wasn't really happy with that purple, so it was changed. I also added some gold in to the covering she's wearing, and then finally I added the eyes. Once again, I goofed the right one and had to start over. That's another reason why I like starting with black... ;)

Greenwell's Medusa

 Adding to my growing collection of Medusas is this nice little bust from Greenwell Studios. His websites seems to be gone and the only presence I could find is an "Art of" page on Facebook. 

This Medusa is a bit different from others in the this one sort of has Octopus tentacles instead of snakes. Anyway here's the bust as received all those years ago -

Masterbox Medusa

Another Medusa to add to my collection was Masterbox's 1/24 scale styrene Medusa.

I built this kit so long ago I have no idea how longs it's been. I was waiting until I finished a little vignette to show it off. Well I finally created the base, so now she's officially finished.

Built according to instructions, I took liberties with the paint job -

 The base I made was decidedly simple. Cork for the floor and steps. A plastic cake tier for the column, and a piece of foam for the top framing of the vignette. All of it got a few coast of V's white primer.

The vine was  homemade with the longest piece of the hanging basket liner thread I could find, and then I placed some of the seeds that look like leaves for miniatures dioramas, one by one on the vine. They are a tan, but I colored most of them green. but did leave a few as dead for contrast. Some pigments as staining on the ground, and a few resin skulls from Green Stuff World. That's all it took. Zabavka Workshop's Medusa

This project has been an on again, off again on the desk for a while now. The kit comes from Zabravka Workshop. It comes in 6 parts. Looking around for a link to share, I can find none. (?)  So I have no idea how to find them again... sorry. EDIT - I found the link by doing an image search. It's https://zabavkaworkshop.com/Medusa-Gorgon

The parts are very nicely done in gray resin, and shows little signs of seam lines or flash.

 A closeup of the base show a sandy base that reminds me of the volcanic sand that is actually tiny rocks. There are also a number of rocks added to the base which further expresses that volcanic feel. 

There are two spots for added parts - one is an assumed stone hand holding a spear, and the other being a torso of a stone Hoplite (?) holding a broken sword. I used the V. Metallics steel for the armor, and red to add color.
Later on I would add some rust to make it seems like he's been there for quite a while.

I decided on this Medusa to give her a regular skin color and natural tail colors. The chest and hip armor was painted gloss black in prep for the V. Brass, and the bow is V's Gold.  To add a little snake to her face I gave her the slit pupils in the eyes.

The weak point of the kit was the arrow. I was about to replace the shaft with something a bit more sturdy, but then realized I could lean the arrow into the bow and with a dot of glue at the point. This will straighten the shaft. 

Here she is with my ever present can of soda to give a size comparison.  I added the diamonds that are seen on some constrictor snakes, and that completed the figure painting.

As mentioned I added a few different rust colors from V's Rust Set to the armor of the soldier and spear.  The base was painted in a Black Gray, and then washed with Citadel's Nuln Oil.  When that was dry I added 2 highlight dry brushings of a medium and light gray.  With that I was done.

Perseus and Medusa

In an effort to collect Medusa kits whenever possible, I came across this kit at a not so recent JerseyFest (or was it the old Resintopia?). The kit came fro the Morland Studios. The kit comes in 6 parts plus a 60mm round base and the figure is scaled to 32mm.

 Following the card, I tried to copy the image. The small size of kit was a real trial to my abilities.

The sculpted base comes in 2 parts, and they are made to attach together, but sitting on the round base, there was extra room. I decided to fill the black base. In the pic you can see gray Aves to fill the basesplitting the difference between rocks and sea.   I also used V's Plastic putty to fill the seam between the monster/sea and the rocks. 

I made the tip of the snout of the monster shades of gray as if it was turning to rock, again a la the Clash of the Titans remake. Don't know how well that comes across being so little of the monster is seen. 

From there, I concentrated on the TINY details for the figure.

There was no decal for the shield, so I tried my best, Think of the Clash of the Titans remake, and painted on a scorpion. Finally adding some gloss to the scene, and gluing Perseus in place, I was finished. Thanks for looking.
