Marilyn Finale

Continuing on with Marilyn, the example shows here wearing a black dress. There's a lot of black with no real breakups in color. What I chose to do was take some Blue Gunmetal, which is a dark blue color with metal flakes in it. To make it a little bit darker I did add a little black.

Then For the hair originally I chose V's Wood, but that looked too yellow. Marilyn's hair changed - A LOT - over time and I guess depending on what movie she was acting in. So I over-painted it with Cork, and then two highlights ending with Ivory.

For the stole I just used a light gray, and under some of the larger tufts a darker gray. The dry brushed with an Off White, finally ending with  a light coat of Pearlizing Medium.

1951 The Thing From Another World

Another 1/5 scale from John Dennett. A very clean kit (as usual) with only the slightest hint of the seam line across the head.
I gave it a "nice and easy" painting (maybe too easy) that there was no real spot for WIP pics.  Thanks for looking.

Meng Sherman

This time I did something a little different with the Meng Models World War Toons Sherman tank. It's one of those "deformed" type models, like the egg planes. There was no scale listed.

The biggest bonus to me was that they had the "rubber band" type treads. I couldn't imagine myself sitting there assembling the treads on section at a time. I assembled the major sub-assemblies and then painted it the US Olive Drab green.

After that I added the decals which went on very nicely. I then added a little weathering ala Night Shift

The base was done with a piece of cut up foam, and the hedgerow  is a plastic aquarium filter material covered in Ground foam. With that I was finished. Thanks for looking.

Marilyn

Catching up with my posts we have Marilyn Monroe from the Suite Life Productions. The card that came with the kit indicates she's part of a potential series Girls on Film Part 1.

She looks like she's about 1/5 scale and was a very nice 2 part casting with only minor cleanup of the seam-line that runs around the kit.

If you read my entry on the Pebbles bust, you already know about whats happening here. If not, very briefly I saw the You Tube channel creator that has been looking for an effective yet simple was to create a realistic look for skin tone coat in a purple pink color on top and then from the bottom add a red.

Then when you add the skin color in light passes while leaving some of the red and purple you end up with a lifelike skin IMHO.

Check back for more. Thanks for looking.

AWIL Nurse Price.

Once again from the talented Gillman Productions comes Nurse Price from American Werewolf in London. Play by Jenny Agutter, the likeness is very good! The kit comes in 2 parts - the bust and the base. The figure is in 1/4 scale. This figure will also complete the trio with David and Jack.  First thing I looked for a good portrait that shows eye color etc...

After a wash and super easy clean up,  I gave the kit a priming. I forgot to take a "before" shot, show here she is primed and with the first layer of face paint.

To me, her eyes are a hazel green, so that's the way I went.

I wanted to try something new with the base so I painted it black and then dry brushed it with a white. Next I too some thinned inks, and gave it a few shots of blue and purple. I kept the center with a yellow as I was planning on giving the pentagram a splatter of blood.  I think I over did it with the inks, and anyway the highlights lightened with the white was too close together to make it stand out. Lesson learned.

The portrait was also helpful in seeing what the buttons were on her uniform - well, at least what color they were.  After that I was done. Thanks for looking.

Filmy's Pebbles Part 2

Who boy I've been lazy about updating this blog... Before we pick up with Pebbles, I have to mention this figure painted, whose YouTube channel is called Groundeffected. He has been toying with a number of different ways to replicate skin - from the dots of various colors under the skin tone, to washes on and on.  What he's going recently and what I tried was to paint the skin areas a purple-pink, and then a strong red from below. Having done it, I thought to myself "No way!" this is going to work even tho I see the YT guy do it.  So on go the purple pink and the red.

Letting that dry, it's time for the magic to happen when I simply apply light coats of a  flesh color over the previous colors. You know what? It worked!  "Your Dad" as the YT guy calls himself says to leave a bit of the purple pink and red to act as shadow colors.  Gotta say - I like the result.

While that was drying I toned down the red hair and also painted the cord of the necklace. Next session I'll come back and give the skin some highlights and then on to the clothes. In Filmy's sample he has her in a realistic tiger stripe. But in the cartoon. Pebbles is wearing-what I thought was pink and purple stripe, but a closer look is pink and red - still cool I guess. Check back for that.

FRankenstein"s Creation Finale

Thanks for stopping back for the finale. Continuing on, the first thing was to cover over all the veins etc. with some yellow ochre. My "new" usual is to then lightly mist the recessed areas with dome Reikland Fleshshade thru the airbrush. While that was drying I added some blues and whites to the iceberg.

Next was some dark Black Brown for the hair, and then roughly dry-brushed some cork brown on the dark blue gray jacket to simulate grave dirt. ;) I went back and added some Woodland Senics snow to the iceberg and glued that in place

With the skin dried, I added color to all the little cuts and gouges he had including the scalpel cuts. Going back to the hair I went with the next lighter color brown for a few highlights. He was supposed to have really dark hair so I did my best to show the strands while keeping it dark. The eyeballs were already black, so I added the same yellow ochre for the iris, and then added beige to the sclera. Once dried both colors were lightened and then a black pupil was added with a cut toothpick.  The sutures were colored with V's Duraluminum and with that I was finished.

It was a very cool kit and a fun one to paint. Plus as someone else said not the same ol' Frankenstein.  Thanks for looking.

Ghost Christmas Yet To Come

This winter John Dennett's MoonDevil Studio released to "ghosts" from the series - Present and Yet to Come.
I figured Yet to Come would be a little easier to complete. So I started out with a black primer. Then I looked up the ghosts to see what the details were.
Upon seeing the image -

I was essentially done. But how could I call a model finished with just one coat of primer. So I decided to give it a purple highlight - just enuff to not make it black anymore. Then I just built up the purple for the base. Thanks for looking.

Filmy's Girls Pebbles

This is a bust produced by Filmy's Girls.  From the site:

Filmy's Girls resin model kits are created and produced by a team of talented artisans led by veteran modeler Marc Havican.

At the heart of each Filmy’s Girls kit is a female heroine, posed in a tasteful way that is sexy, yet not offensive.  Each of our designs calls to mind the classic pinup style of Gil Elvgren, incorporating a setting that tells a story in a humorous way.  We want our kits to bring a smile to your face, and to the faces of everyone who sees your finished buildup.

Honestly, these kits are a bit out of my price range. So when i saw a bust offered, I jumped at the chance to own one of Marc's kits.

Pebbles, if you remember is the daughter of Fred and Wilma Flinstone and as you can see she's grown into a healthy cave woman! ;)

The 1/5 (?) scale kit comes in 6 immaculate parts - the body/base, head 2 pigtails, the back skirt and IIRC a tooth earring.

The beauty part about this kit is that they have already installed magnets into the parts (except for the skirt) so things fit perfectly.  The session ended after I primed the skin a light pink primer. Thanks for looking and check back.

Frankenstein's Creation

Already having a few Frankensteins already, I wasn't so sure I needed another. But when I heard Moondevil studio's  John Dennett used Mary Shelley's written description and it was different than the Universal monster, I had to have it.

The description of the Creation was a very tall man, with yellow skin that was so translucent that you could almost see the veins underneath. He also had black hair and yellow watery eyes.

Produced in 2016, this kit has been in the stash for quite a while.  The 1:3rd scale bust comes in two blue resin parts and only has the slightest seam line, mostly seen around what I think the the iceberg base. I forgot to take a pic until I had the primer on it.

To mimic the veins under the skin I applied the tried and truth method of super thin lines of many colors with an airbrush.

All the lines really hid the super detail that the skin has, so I took some Citadel Agrax Wash and applied it all over the skin. I also hit the eyes with my usual black.I gave the rest of him his base coats - black hair, a green gray jack, and a gray blue iceberg, and with that the session ended. Check back.

DelToro's Wolfman

Continuing with the Wolfman theme happens to be my favorite wolf-man to date. It's 2010's The Wolfman starring Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins and Emily Blunt. It's the same story as the others - upon his return to his ancestral homeland, an American man (Del Toro) is bitten and subsequently cursed by a werewolf.

The kit comes in 3 parts of nicely casted white resin. There was an ever so slight trace of a seam in the hairline, which cleaned up in about 20 minutes.  An added bonus was I got a drawing and autograph of the sculptor Mark Van Tine.

I decided to leave the arm off for the time being, but epoxied the bust to the mausoleum base.

Base Coloring started - well maybe a few additional layers on the fur. The face was a little difficult to figure out. Some scenes have him fairly light around the facial features, while other scenes has the entire head dark.  I started out leaving it dark, but it was too dark for a static model. At this point I epoxied the arm on too.

Visit again for the finale of the Wolfman.  Thanks for looking.

Typhon's Wolfman

One can never have too many Wolfmen...Adding to my Wolfman collection is this little beaut from Typhon Studios, and it's of course Lon Chaney's version of the character. Sculpted by Kent Kidwell the kit is in 3 parts - bust, tree, and sign.

Seems I dove into this kit to the point where I don't have any WIP of it. It's just typical, IMHO  Wolfman colors ;)  .   It struck me that this sculpt should have some OSL. I'm not very good at it, so the more I can practice the better.  Thanks for looking.

T.C. Quist Finale

Continuing on, the first thing I noticed was that I got the colors of his clothes reversed. I thought the fur jacket was light but darker than his shirt. Wrong. So that had to be fixed.

Then the kit had an obvious 5 o"clock shadow (or maybe longer) on his face.  My usual way of tackling that is to get out the dark blue pastels. When done, I wasn't exactly happy with it. I thought that maybe some brown would tone the blue down, but that just made things look worse. So after a face washing, it was back to more blue. I'm going to keep this open in case I come up with a better idea.

Finally I added some dark red clear UV resin to his stump hand and I was calling this one done. Thanks for looking.

Terminator 2: HK vehicle

This happens to be my first ever commission. I met the guy at the local IPMS meeting. After looking over the kit and what had to be done, I gave a price which was accepted. He gave me a lot of leeway to follow the boxart and what others had done.  Here are the pics I passed on to the owner.

Getting the fuselage together

Building the legs

Adding to the fuselage

Making sure the tail lights stay in place

Strip styrene added to replace panels sanded away

Black gloss add for the metallics

Rustoleum gloss for the base. Worked great!
