Jersey Fest 2023 Pics (part 2)

More pics from the Contest Room -

Thanks for looking.

Jersey Fest 2023 (part 1)

Jersey Fest for 2023 is in the books, and what a great time it was seeing all the models, meeting up with friends etc... I didn't take a workshop class this year, but they all sold out so a lot of people got some new skills.

Due to timing I got there on Saturday late in the afternoon, and the turnout seemed a little light, but a friend was there early, and said it was very well attended.

I didn't take pics of the vendor room - there are a lot of those on the various FB pages. But I did shoot the Contest Room. Each model was better than the one before it. Well done by all and looking to the one in 2024!

Yes, Virginia, it's not all Frankensteins and Draculas...

2019 Jersey Fest

Another JF has come and gone at the Newark Int'l Airport Marriott. This year I was only a minimal attendee. No workshops classes, no demos, and didn't enter any models.
This year I just reconnected with some of the old (and new) friends in the hobby. And as usually I came home with a little loot.
Clockwise we start with Princes Leia from Good Fellas Resin.
To the right is a mini Chewie from McDevitt Studios for his Patreons.
Since you can never have enough werewolves, next is TC Quist from The Howling by Gillman Productions.
Lower right is Satan from the Twilight Zone episode "The Howling Man." This is another excellent bust by John Dennett's MoonDevil Studios.
To the left of him is a GOT's mini Danys also from Good Fellas.
Then I stumbled across this World War Toons tank from MENG gotten from Michigan Toy Co.    I have an idea for a diorama that includes the tank in a new form. We'll probably see that in early 2020.
The final mini is a "trophy" figure of a wrestler, for scoring best on some of McDevitt's Patron  Thursday Throwdowns.

One kit that I was looking for that didn't make it out in time was Silver screen Icons interpretation of Lucy from Bram stokers Dracula based on this scene -
I'll be keeping my eye open for that one. Thanks for looking.

New

This post is the after Jersey Fest article.  Ooh boy, I went a little mad this year. It started off with one producer, who wanted to be there but couldn't because of Hurricane Irma, gave an "I can't make it" model sale. From him I picked up a Hellboy and Abe Sapien bust. When I got them I realized they were HUGE! Parts of them were also cast in a translucent resin to aid in lighting. I may just light them up.

At JerseyFest, it really was like a kid in a candy shop. But knowing I had the two kits above coming, I *tried* to calm myself.
Walking around I stopped at  John Dennett and Paul Gill's tables. From John, he sold out of the "Take Me to Your Leader" kit-

but I did get his Ghoul -

From Paul's table I got the new Pennywise kit from the remake of IT -

Then in walking around I stopped at Goodfellas Resin, and picked up their terrific "Dragon Mother" bust. I like it because for whatever reason, many producers feel the need to have Daenery's kit in some stage of nudity. While I'm not a prude how many naked girls can you have on your model shelves...

The gap you see is for a lock of hair, not shown

At Troy McDevitt's table I picked up his mini Punisher bust from his comic book collection. The kits comes with stickers of comic books that correspond to each character. They fill up the blank spots on the stack base.

And finally there was a woman there with multiple casts of just two kits - a plaque that I don't remember, and an alien bust. You can never have too many aliens...

Thanks for looking.

Report from JerseyFest 2016 - Part 2

After I finished the previous post and it went live, I remembered I left out little vid clips of some of the models that were lit. I think little vids make sense as it shows the lighting the best. Rather than add it on to an already long post, I'll just show them here - -

The Thing Spaceship

The Interstellar spaceship
The Beast and the Lighthouse
King Kong on TV. I thought this was VERY clever -

Thanks for looking.

Report From JerseyFest 2016

JerseyFest is a 3 day scale modeling show that's is concentrating on Sci-Fi and Horror.  There's not a Sherman tank nor Bf-109 anywhere nearby. :) Haha Each year it has been taking place in the Marriott Hanover, in Whippany, NJ. The venue is a very nice place and they provide for a large Vendor Room, two large lecture demo rooms, and a slightly smaller model contest room. Each year the show starts on A Friday and there are a number of scheduled workshops.  The other cool part is the leaders of the workshops are well know experts in their fields. There was:
  1. Painting a Creature from the Black Lagoon Bust with Greg McKellar
  2. Airbrush Painting a Monster with Casey Love
  3. Sculpting a “Hulk” with Randy Bowen by Polyform
  4. Miniature Figure Model Painting by Morland Studios (Friday Evening Class)
  5. Painting a Star Wars X-Wing with Michael Salzo
On Saturday and Sunday was the Vendor Sales and also a few lecture demos. They were:

Saturday

  • Randy Bowen – Sculpting demo
  • Casey Love – Overview of monster creation from sculpt to paint
  • Greg McKellar – Painting monsters demo
  • Sean Sides – The art of scratch building and tips for building and painting resin vehicle kits, including Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica models.
  • Steve Neisen – Overview of methods used to bring Sci-Fi spaceship models to life from concept to production.  Includes techniques used for various Star Wars and Star Trek models
  • Saul Alvarez – Demo of Painting ”Regan” from “The Exorcist”

Sunday

  • Randy Bowen – Overview of past, current and future Bowen models and statues including collaborations with other artists
  • Casey Love – Sculpting demo
  • Steve Neisen & Mike Salzo - Patterning, constructing and painting studio scale Sci-Fi vehicle models
  • Sandy Collora – Creature design and sculpture
Honestly the only thing I find rather annoying is the people running the show seem to forget to announce the times beforehand and it's until you are there do you find out who's talking when.  The show is based (IMHO) on a person being there the whole weekend, and honestly I think this is a mistake.

I went on Saturday and due to circumstances behind my  control I got there late and missed most of the talks. I did get to see Randy Bowen's sculpting demo as it was the last one of the day. He ended up creating an awesome Caveman bust -

Looking thri the contest room is a terrific treat. Tons of awesome models. Here's a little slide show of some of the models. I didn't try to take them all, but just a taste of what's there. Click here for the slide show.

Lastly I certainly found time to do at least a few laps thru the Vendor room. I made it a point to meet up with friends John Dennett of MoonDevil studio, and Paul Gill of Gillman Productions.  From Paul I got a kit of David as the Wold from American Werewolf in London. This is being released by Sharon Carter and cast by Paul -
It's an older kit so as I glued on the legs for the image, I noticed that the legs don't fit perfectly and some filling will be necessary. The second thing is that my kit was boxed with 2 front left legs. So a quick FB message to Paul got that straightened out and I should have it in a day or two. I just noticed I didn't have the fangs nearby, so he's kinda gummy looking. The other thing is that it comes with a severed head, which is by his front paw.

The next is a Frankenstein sculpted and cast by John Dennett. What make this one different is that John used Mary Shelley's description of the monster from her book, and not the typical flat top Karloff make up. While I'm not a Frankenstein guy, it was different enuff for me to get. Here he is -

John was gracious enough to include another of his "fiends" in my Box. Its the Chluthu figure -

Next up is a new monster created by Sandy Collora.  La Tiburonera (the Shark Hunter) looka like a cross between a Snapping Turtle and the Creature from the Black Lagoon. I picked up the Bust of the Shark Hunter. He gave me a mini bust, and while we were talking - he also grew up on Staten Island - he drew his monster on the bag he gives for purchases. Pretty cool!

Finally I found an awesome looking kit from Moreland Studios. It's Perseu holding up the head of Medusa to the Kraken (who looks like an alligator in the sculpt). Looking at the pic on the box, the amount of detail is amazing and it fooled me into thinking it was somewhere between 75 to 120mm figure. I didn't think realize the box and contents was too light to be a larger figure and was surprised when a 28mm came out of the box!. The figure is amazingly detail, just thats it's small. I'll have to take out my Optivisors for that one -

Sorry the pic is a little blurry. Thanks for lookin'.

JerseyFest 2015

JerseyFest was this past weekend. I was only able to go the one day (Sat.). There was quite a number of models on the Contest Table, and a nice selection of demo's, throughout the day. There was even quite a number of vendors in their room.  It was good to see some old friends as well as some new ones.  I did make a few purchases from MoonDevil Studios, Creative Beast Studios, two kits from Gillman, I also picked up a pack of "organic" stencils that I can use for something --

Some pictures from the contest room are here:

I did enter the 5 models I mentioned in my previous post and  due to a stupid move on my part never wrote the name of the model on the slip. Doh! It didn't matter to the contest as they go by the slip number.

I was happy to win a Silver for entry "279."  I tried to figure out which was which - "279" was either my Twisty model or my Abominable Snowman model. (DOH! again) I guess I'll have to wait  for the public posting of the winners.
