Translating a Japanese Paint Guide Solved

Well, that was quick. I posted my question on the SSM forum, and in a matter of hours I had my answer:

White numbers in black boxes are Gunze Mr. Color Lacquers:

Black numbers in white boxes are the aqueous acrylics:

Simple as that. Now transposing the Gunze colors to my Vallejo was a bit more difficult. For one, Vallejo had an excellent online guide that matched their paint up with 5 or 6 others including the Federal Standard ~ gone.  
Luckily I had it printed out and was just a matter of remembering where I put it.
Some colors ended up being easy - White is white and silver is silver. But some were a little more difficult, including the Gunze color number not being in either the Model Color (VMC) or Air Color (VAC) chart.  So I had to convert the Gunze code to FS code and then see if the FS code matched with VMC or VAC. After an hour of which should have taken 5 minutes, I had success. The big plus was that I had all the colors I need! Thanks for looking.

Bartholomew Finished

WOW - he's been sitting around since October?  See HERE for the first part.
This was a little bust I picked up from John Dennett at his MoonDevil Studios table at the last JerseyFest.

All of John's busts has a story that he has created behind it. He also plans to release these stories sometime in the future.

But this is a story of Bartholomew, a ventriloquist dummy that seems to have a mind of his own. It's been a while so I don't remember all the details. But safe to say the viewer is in for a surprise when the dummy falls and it's face cracks!

New Aquisitions

I had a few more kits show up at my door this week. First is a Dracula sculpt. Looking at his head, it matches up with a 1/6 scale figure. However the body is elongated making the kit very tall (~22 in.).  Closeup of his face reveals a very maniacal stare. 

The next kit is a bit of an oddball. For those that read the novel The Shining

New Aquisitions

Was able to pick up a few things this month. The first one was actually gotten a short while ago. I saw a Kickstarter for a game involving Vikings and the Giants, Trolls and other goodies from mythology. It started out as $75 and you got the game and nearly 50 pieces (IIRC). Usually with Kickstarter, if you reach a certain amount of money, then they add something. Well the pledges reach the new high limit prolly about 15 times!  Each time a new figure or set of figures was added to the set. By the end of the campaign the game had made nearly $950,000!!  It got to the point where the guy running the campaign admitting they have nothing left to give.  
So here are a few of the Monsters, Trolls, Giants etc...  A quarter is in the pic for scale -- 

Next is a bust I got from a sculptor on Facebook, Brian McQuire. It's a chariacture of Edgar Allen Poe.  I picked this one up becasue it's something different. Too many times you see the same figures just in different poses and different scale. How many (XX) can you buy? So seeing this I quickly snatched it up.

Bikini Island Hellcat decals Arrive

As you may have read a few weeks ago I purchased a Hellcat F6F-5 from Special Hobby and decals for the same after reading a build article on this subject in SAMI. what makes these planes special is that they were operated by remote control!
The decals finally arrived today from Alleycat Models in the UK. what decals they are. By themselves they are just a few star roundels, some numbers and letters. But what Alley Cat does is give you a pamphlet showing all the options and the paint call outs!
There are a number of options - all the planes are painted red, and the tails have different color tails so the remote operator can tell which plane is his. 

This is going to be an awesome build.
