Christopher Lee Dracula

As you may have seen in the promo, with Chris Lee's face already base coated, this is where I started. 
MoonDevil's kit is, as usual, very clean - no bubbles and the faintest remnant of a seam line in the hair. It took just minutes to fade that seam line into near invisibility.  It came in two parts - the bust and the base.  John also autographed the bottom of the base for me - 

 

This model is going to go fairly quickly. Of course I go back and forth with the skin tone. Stuck in my head Dracula should be this pasty white character, but Hammer Films had Christopher Lee as a fairly buff figure. 

So I end up doing the highlights and then backtrack because I made it too light. Anyway, here we are at the half way point with the skin, and the rest base coasted. Thanks for looking.

The Next Contestants

I'm still not ready for another vehicle yet, so the next volunteers from the stash are Vincent Price caricature bust, Christopher Lee bust, and a Hannibal (of Carthage fame) bust. 
I've had Vincent Price for a *long* time and really forget who it's by. I *think* it's from Rebel Resin. The Chris Lee is from the one and only John Dennett and MoonDevil Studio, and Hannibal is on the mini side and is from Black Heart Models.   Check back. Thanks for lookin'.

Aradia's Poseidon

This model has been sitting on my desk for a while now about 99% done. Lets have a look. The first thing that's noticed is the base that's on the website is quite a bit different than what you get. I don't know (and didn't think to ask) if it was a mistake on Aradia's part or what. Anyway Posideon just sits on this little ledge of coral. No matter I can model a base. The parts are shown below. On the website you had a choice of either a human type face or a sort of fish mask (arrow). I liked the mask, but in person IMO I felt it made him look like he had a tiny head -

 I started out by doing a light flesh color over the upper body - 

 My next idea was the long locks of gray hair, but then why should he look like an old guy. So I have him youthful dark hair. ;) 

This is the problem for me when a model sits. You think you've taken pics that you didn't. But basically the skin was done in a Flesh, and washed with Citadels Reikland Fleshshade. Then the fish part was done in a blue, highlighted with a turquoise with some pearlizing craft paint for the wet look sparkle. 

The base is simply Sculpt -a-Mould  over some foam "boulders. Spray with a tan and then the same turquoise with the pearl.  Finally I wanted some sort of backdrop for him. I went looking for some pieces of fan coral at the pet stores. But no good. I guess real coral decorations are taboo now. I found some artificial stuff that looked good in the pics and real life from a distance. But it's kind of cheesy look close up. I sprayed that with white primer and then some blue mixed with the pearl.

Cookie! part 2

Well, there was just no way to keep the squiggles and get rid of the green. So more blue was added. Then the white for the eyes,  red wash for the bloodshot in the eyes, beige red for the mouth, and Iraqi Sand and Ivory for the teeth.

The floor is simply B&W and as a remembrance I painted the Cookie jar the same dang flesh color that gave me the green! ;) Thanks for looking. 

 

Cookie !!

After doing another vehicle, I quickly retreated to a figure for the next project.  The Cookie Monster was done by Monster Dork Studios.
It's a sort of take off of the cuddly muppet we all know. Except this guy looks anything but cuddly.
As a sidebar, there is also a creepy Elmo available... ;)

Cookie came in 7 parts of odorless resin. I know this is an older kit (I remember it being around for a while). With that, the mold seems to have slipped in spots on the body, and it did take a little work to get that line to disappear - nothing big for those used to resin kits - 

From there, I gave him a dark blue base coat. I didn't want it to be just simply blue, so I painted a flesh color and then did the squiggles to show veins and stuff under the skin. This turns out to be a bit of a mistake as we will see later on.

Ugh! He definitely sat in the gravel driveway too long...

 To get him blue again, the Prussian Blue I used shows a bit of purple. This is where I ran into trouble with the flesh. The first few coats of Medium Blue over the flesh showed up green.  Now I have to balance between leaving it a little green or covering over all the squiggles detail. I tried my best at a balance and then after a Matte coat, I started highlighting by adding a bit of white the the Medium Blue -

Red Star 47 Finale

This is the session where I'm finally going to finish this craft. All the decals went on effortlessly, and the weathering was done almost halfway between brand new looking and totally destroyed. ;) 

The front bumper goes on

The muffler goes on as does the vents. Vent color needs to be altered.

 In all honesty, the "ropes" for the steering vanes etc... still needs to go on. There is thread supplied, but I think I'm going to go with some stretched sprue. But I'm calling this one done.

Red Star 47 - part 4

Moving along. I'm in the final stages of the build.

The front of the ship on, and the pilot is now enclosed. Lots of detail now hidden...

The first time I ever made grab handles from wire. Only ruined two...

There was no color call outs, just a few examples of what could be done. So I did this.
