1951 The Thing From Another World

Another 1/5 scale from John Dennett. A very clean kit (as usual) with only the slightest hint of the seam line across the head.
I gave it a "nice and easy" painting (maybe too easy) that there was no real spot for WIP pics.  Thanks for looking.

Meng Sherman

This time I did something a little different with the Meng Models World War Toons Sherman tank. It's one of those "deformed" type models, like the egg planes. There was no scale listed.

The biggest bonus to me was that they had the "rubber band" type treads. I couldn't imagine myself sitting there assembling the treads on section at a time. I assembled the major sub-assemblies and then painted it the US Olive Drab green.

After that I added the decals which went on very nicely. I then added a little weathering ala Night Shift

The base was done with a piece of cut up foam, and the hedgerow  is a plastic aquarium filter material covered in Ground foam. With that I was finished. Thanks for looking.

Marilyn

Catching up with my posts we have Marilyn Monroe from the Suite Life Productions. The card that came with the kit indicates she's part of a potential series Girls on Film Part 1.

She looks like she's about 1/5 scale and was a very nice 2 part casting with only minor cleanup of the seam-line that runs around the kit.

If you read my entry on the Pebbles bust, you already know about whats happening here. If not, very briefly I saw the You Tube channel creator that has been looking for an effective yet simple was to create a realistic look for skin tone coat in a purple pink color on top and then from the bottom add a red.

Then when you add the skin color in light passes while leaving some of the red and purple you end up with a lifelike skin IMHO.

Check back for more. Thanks for looking.

AWIL Nurse Price.

Once again from the talented Gillman Productions comes Nurse Price from American Werewolf in London. Play by Jenny Agutter, the likeness is very good! The kit comes in 2 parts - the bust and the base. The figure is in 1/4 scale. This figure will also complete the trio with David and Jack.  First thing I looked for a good portrait that shows eye color etc...

After a wash and super easy clean up,  I gave the kit a priming. I forgot to take a "before" shot, show here she is primed and with the first layer of face paint.

To me, her eyes are a hazel green, so that's the way I went.

I wanted to try something new with the base so I painted it black and then dry brushed it with a white. Next I too some thinned inks, and gave it a few shots of blue and purple. I kept the center with a yellow as I was planning on giving the pentagram a splatter of blood.  I think I over did it with the inks, and anyway the highlights lightened with the white was too close together to make it stand out. Lesson learned.

The portrait was also helpful in seeing what the buttons were on her uniform - well, at least what color they were.  After that I was done. Thanks for looking.

Filmy's Pebbles Part 2

Who boy I've been lazy about updating this blog... Before we pick up with Pebbles, I have to mention this figure painted, whose YouTube channel is called Groundeffected. He has been toying with a number of different ways to replicate skin - from the dots of various colors under the skin tone, to washes on and on.  What he's going recently and what I tried was to paint the skin areas a purple-pink, and then a strong red from below. Having done it, I thought to myself "No way!" this is going to work even tho I see the YT guy do it.  So on go the purple pink and the red.

Letting that dry, it's time for the magic to happen when I simply apply light coats of a  flesh color over the previous colors. You know what? It worked!  "Your Dad" as the YT guy calls himself says to leave a bit of the purple pink and red to act as shadow colors.  Gotta say - I like the result.

While that was drying I toned down the red hair and also painted the cord of the necklace. Next session I'll come back and give the skin some highlights and then on to the clothes. In Filmy's sample he has her in a realistic tiger stripe. But in the cartoon. Pebbles is wearing-what I thought was pink and purple stripe, but a closer look is pink and red - still cool I guess. Check back for that.
